The Italian American One Voice Coalition, an Italian American anti-bias group based in Bloomfield, placed AFLAC on its Wall of Shame. The "dishonor" is bestowed for AFLAC's commercial "Family Business," which portrays Italian Americans as mobsters. This ad is unacceptable to Italian Americans and should be removed immediately, according to the organization. Its intent is to ridicule Italian Americans and One Voice demands an apology to the Italian American community, it continues.
"There is no doubt in our minds. An accordion and mandolins playing Italian background music in a commercial starring Hollywood bad guy Frank Vincent of 'Goodfellas' and 'The Sopranos' fame have made it crystal clear they are Italians," Dr. Manny Alfano, One Voice president, stated in a press release.
