On the 23rd of April, the first Boeing 737MAX 8 of the new Italian carrier Air Italy, formerly known as Meridiana, rolled out of the paint shop in Portland, Oregon featuring the airline’s colorful livery. Air Italy currently operates a fleet of 11 aircraft, 8 Boeing 737NGs, and 3 Boeing 767-300s, which have previously been used by their predecessor Meridiana.
These aircraft will have their leases renewed this year and will be joining a fleet of Boeing’s 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The new narrowbody planes will primarily be used for domestic flights. Long-haul aircraft like the Airbus A330-200 and the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. Air Italy’s plan is to expand their operations within Italy and internationally by adding new routes from their hub at Milan Malpensa Airport to domestic destinations like Rome, Naples, and Catania from May 2018.
