96-year-old Houghs Neck carousel to soon spin again

The wooden horses, lions, tigers and giraffes of the DeAngelis Carousel have spun all over the South Shore. The all-wood menagerie captivated local children from Pembroke to Stoughton to Houghs Neck through the '20s, '30s, '40s and into the '50s, until its original owner died and the carousel sat aging and unused in a Quincy home for several decades.

It has been nearly a century since Italian immigrant Domenick DeAngleis originally commissioned the hand-carved work, but thanks to a group of history lovers, an eager New York town and nearly more than $5 million, the carousel will soon spin again.
