Sixty years ago Anna Magnani won an Oscar for Best Actress for The Rose Tattoo, starring Burt Lancaster, directed by Daniel Mann. The Istituto Luce-Cinecittà dedicated to a great actress retrospective, La Magnani, who is conquering New York and will involve other cities of the United States- Chicago, Detroit, Berkeley, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, Columbus, Festival of Toronto, Cambridge and presented in some of the most prestigious film institutions.
In Italy rediscovers the human figure of Magnani, as well as the artistic one, through the book "Anna Magnani. Biografy of a woman" (original title "Anna Magnani. Biografia di una donna"), award "Ferrovie dello Stato" 2016; Literary Prize National "Borgo Albori" 2016, of the young Matteo Persica, published by the publishing house Odoya. Critics consider the best book on the actress and soon to be translated into English to get into overseas libraries.
If through films (Roma città aperta, l' onorevole Angelina, L' amore, Bellissima, La rosa tatuata, Mamma Roma) can relive the Italian actress's innate talent, thanks to the book of Persica we can relive the thoughts, the feelings, the joys and the troubles of a woman who lived a life in an attempt to not betray never herself. Embodying core values such as moral integrity and professionalism if it means disappear from the tour of the major film productions, to be set aside from the world of cinema as an actress considered difficult to treat and that did not make " money". All of this this to maintain their human and artistic dignity even to eyes of the public. Thanks to the passion, commitment and a clear and compelling prose like that of a novel, Matteo Persica (with a preface by Maurizio Liverani, introduced by a memory of Fabrizio Sarazani) writes a biography - the subtitle "Biografy of a woman"; It is the most clear you could ask for - that should be taken as a model: without a shred of boredom or rhetoric, it based on a huge documentation and testimony (just run quickly through the bibliographic notes) to shake our own wrists, for nearly ten years of research work that has given a flavorful and tasty fruit, a portrait in which lacks any nuance.
