Italian American crooners were very popular from the 1930s until the British invasion in the 1960s. The first Italian American crooner was Russ Colombo. He is credited for paving the way for other gifted Italian American crooners, such as Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Vic Damone, Frankie Laine, Al Martino, Tony Bennett, Jerry Vale, Dean Martin, Lou Monte, Don Cornell, Julius LaRosa, Louis Prima, Buddy Greco, and Vic Dana.

Colombo died young, in an accidental shooting death, at the age of 26, which shortened his popular music career. The song "Prisoner of Love" became his signature tune. It remained a standard well into the 1960s. Perry Como also had success with the song. Today, there are only a handful of renowned Italian American crooners pleasing audiences. These current performers do not get the recognition that the men above did, despite the fact that they are just as talented.

Sal Valentinetti is one of them. A gifted young performer from New York, Valentinetti is an America's Got Talent golden buzzer winner. Peter Cincotti is another fantastic Italian American crooner. His father is from the southern Italian province of Avellino.

Paul Marinaro is a phenomenal Italian American crooner from the Windy City. Writer Howard Reich of the Chicago Tribute has given Marinaro praise for having an incredible voice. Marinaro is one of the most in-demand and respected male vocalists in the United States. Sal Manzo is another great Italian American crooner. Born in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, he received a thunderous applause for singing "God Bless America" at Shea Stadium for the Mets in 2008.

Tony Bennett and Vic Dana are the only Italian American crooners from the golden age of music still alive. Born Anthony Benedetto in New York, Bennett was a big influence on a young Canadian boy named Michael Bublé.

Bublé is not an Italian American, but he is an Italian Canadian, with a passion for romantic songs from the Great American Songbook. With his talent, charisma and love for those songs, Bublé brings something exceptionally spectacular to his performances.
