Dr. Mary Rorro is an Italian American physician, violist, and songwriter. She was recently published in the Royal Entomological Society’s Journal “Antenna,” Volume 45 (4) 2021. The British Society was founded in 1833 and in 1885 a Royal Charter was granted to the Entolomological Society by Queen Victoria. Eminent scientists such as Charles Darwin was a Fellow of the Society.

Her narrative and poem “Ode to a Cicada Symphony: Overture to Finale,” described the 17 year emergence of the cicada in musical terms, of particular interest to New Jersey residents who experienced the event in 2021.

Dr. Rorro’s essay “The Greatest Gift” is included in the book “Becoming Doctors: 25 Years Later A Follow-Up Visit,” edited by Par Bolina, M.D., about her work combining her lifelong love of music into a medical career. She sang an original song paying tribute to veterans, “Thank You, Veterans,” for the Veterans Day Service at Princeton University Chapel. A video of her song was included in the national Department of Veterans Affairs “COVID in 20” show and on YouTube. Dr. Matteo Giammario, her Italian American former youth orchestra conductor, who is now 96 years old and a World War II veteran, also composed an arrangement of the song. Dr. Rorro also composed the international Anthem of the FIlitalia organization and performed the song at their gala, with an arrangement by Maestro Matteo.

Dr. Rorro, Chair of the American Medical Women’s Association Music and Medicine and Humanities Committees, also developed two videos “Physicians Healers and Healthcare Heroes” and “Meet the Moment,” including and honoring national and international healthcare providers treating patients with COVID-19, and encouraging COVID-19 prevention measures.
