Italian Americans are ignored 364 days a year. Italian Heritage Month is not advertised on TV nor does Congress officially acknowledge it. It is an official state heritage month in New Jersey, but the state government does not promote it. Everyone knows that Sept. 15-Oct. 15 is Hispanic heritage Month but few people know about Italian Heritage Month or that it is in October.
The one day in October, or in the year at all, in which Italians get noticed is Columbus Day. However, people protest Columbus Day every year. Most are either people ignorant of real Italian American culture or want to show how inclusive and pro-diversity they are by excluding and rejecting the diverse culture of Italian Americans.
