Everyone has a list of places they are desperate to visit in their lifetime — those countries and cities that you just cannot wait to see. The likes of Paris, Rome, Venice and New York come up time and time again when you ask people for their top bucket-list destinations. For me, though, none of these would make my list. In general (there are always exceptions!) I prefer to visit lesser-known places — the ones where you aren’t consumed with checking off a list of ‘must-see’ sights or ‘must-do’ activities.
