Two years after his death, a Bakersfield veteran is being honored by a city in Italy for his unique contribution to their history. Edward Reep was a soldier-artist who captured photos of the day 70 years ago when the city of Bologna was liberated in World War II.
Reep took photos of a spontaneous shrine citizens had erected, and later painted that scene. His record helped the community regain part of their history. On April 17 this year, daughter Susan Reep will be in Bologna for a special "resistance day" celebration, that will include an exhibit of her father's war-time work.
