But if you’re more flip-flops than stilettos, the town of Amalfi is your ticket to sprawling historic ruins, and the candy-colored streets swaddle it in the most authentic of Italian aromas. (It’s also more forgiving on the wallet and, despite the fact that it is the first port of call for tourists, it has plenty of postcard-perfect views of its own, and a cuisine that is rooted in tradition.
