While Newport Creamery’s former location at Bellevue Gardens closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the space’s dairy origins live on as Luca Mignogna and wife Christina renovate it into a traditional Italian cheese shop. “I’d like to bring possibilities into Newport that you can only get in Italy, in the countryside,” Luca Mignogna said. “We want to bring that experience right into downtown.”
Although new to Newport, Mozz is just the latest iteration of Mignogna’s long history in the cheesemaking business. Originally from Molisa, Italy, Luca Mignogna honed his craft for decades before opening Wolf Meadow Farm with Christina in 2009 in Amesbury, Mass., where he built a following of customers eager to buy his Italian cheeses.
