Ten young adults from the Lawrence area were each awarded a $500 scholarship toward tuition or fees at colleges or tuition-based high schools as part of the second annual Giangrande Family Scholarship Award. The award ceremony was held July 27 at Dr. Ibrahim El-Hefni Health and Technology Center at Northern Essex Community College in Lawrence.
The fund began as a simple idea, honoring an Italian-American immigrant family's legacy of multiplying joy by sharing what you have, no matter how little. It has developed into a positive link between the immigrant experience of one local family's grandparents and the experience of other families living in Lawrence today who are striving for a better life for themselves and their children.
