"When I first met Gianni Versace a few decades ago, I met a man who was just as passionate about art, opera, food, and furniture design as he was fashion," Anna Wintour told WWD. "Every single Italian designer I have come to know since then has been exactly the same. Italy tends to know all about the best things in life for the simple reason it makes most of them."
What has inspired Wintour to take a stroll down memory lane and sing the praises of Italian fashion? Condé Nast has launched a major initiative in which they will team up with five Italian universities to award scholarships in fashion, film, art, and journalism. Anna will join fellow Condé Nast editors-in-chief Graydon Carter, David Remnick, Jim Nelson, and Stefano Tonchi in selecting the winners, and it seems that she's set on finding the next Versace.
