Please consider the following points regarding the Christopher Columbus statue in City Park. The information comes from Philadelphia attorney Robert Petrone.
Columbus represents the first founding father of the Americas. Columbus was the first civil rights activist of the Americas. He successfully petitioned the king of Spain to enact civil rights legislation to protect the indigenous people of the West Indies. Research clearly shows that Columbus never hurt, enslaved, raped or mutilated any person nor ordered such atrocities. Columbus was a devout Catholic and believed those things to be immoral.
