The National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame will present its Lifetime Achievement Award to auto racing legend Mario Andretti at a Nov. 9 induction and awards gala at the Westin O’Hare in Rosemont. A 1981 inductee of the hall of fame, Andretti earned victories in 111 races during a career that spanned five decades and six continents.
Along the way, he won the Daytona 500, Indianapolis 500 and Formula One World Championship — a feat accomplished by no other driver. The award presented to Andretti will be named in his honor at the event. The NIASHF Class of 2019 inductees include Glenn Carano, Alexis DeJoria and Ralph “Babe” Serpico, who will be inducted posthumously. Dominic Stramaglia will be honored as the Sportsman of the Year.
