Oct 11, 2019 668

Five Italian-American artists from New Jersey are exhibiting their work this month at the Caldwell Public Library, 268 Bloomfield Ave. October is Italian Heritage Month, and each artist is a descendant of Italian immigrants. The title of the exhibition, “The Golden Door,” refers to a 2006 Italian movie, “Nuovomondo,” about Italian immigration at the beginning of the 20th century as well as to the famous poem by Emma Lazarus on the Statue of Liberty.

The artists are painter Steven Mairella; graphic artist and painter Maria Carparelli, who is president of the Italian Genealogical Society of New Jersey; painter Lucia DeChino; photographer Daniel Mairella; and photographer John Masi. There will be a reception with Italian music and a genealogy presentation at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the library.
