Osmero L. “Ozzie” Bartelli, 98, of Parsons died at 4:14 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Oswego Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Oct. 14, 1919, at Frontenac to Marino and Rosa (Mannoni) Bartelli. He grew up in Frontenac and graduated from Frontenac High School in 1937 as valedictorian.
In April 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and later received a field promotion to the rank of captain with the 3rd Infantry Division of the 10th Engineer Combat Battalion. During his distinguished military career, he participated in the invasion of North Africa (French Morocco), the Tunisian Campaign, the invasion of Sicily, the Cassino Campaign, the Anzio Beachhead landing, the capitulation of Rome, the invasion of Southern France, the Alsace-Ardennes campaign, Rhineland, Siegfried Line breakthrough, the capture of Berchtesgaden and surrender of German forces on May 7, 1945, at Salzburg, Austria.
