Residents of Erie's Little Italy neighborhood are already missing a longtime business that closed its doors only two days ago. The Majestic Bakery had been open for 103 years and its closing came as a surprise to loyal customers. Those customers are hoping the doors of the bakery are not closed for too long. Owner Alex Pop decided to retire due to health concerns and it is hoped he will put the business up for sale.
Most Little Italy residents had no idea the bakery would be closing. They loved the bread which was baked in big brick ovens. It doesn't matter how old you are. If you're from Little Italy, you probably remember seeing the dough being put in those ovens and the hot, freshly baked bread coming out.
