The Jersey City Italian-American community celebrated Columbus Day Saturday with a parade and a block party. The event also honored outstanding Italian-Americans for their contributions to the city. Developer Joseph Panepinto Jr. served as grand marshal.
Dr. Giorgio DiVincenzo was the Italian Medical Professional of the Year; Joseph Severini the Italian Man of the Year, Viriginia Calabrese the Italian Woman of the Year and Theresa DeFelice the Italian Educator of the Year. Capt. Anthony Tedesco was the Italian Police Officer of the Year, Battalion Chief Joseph Altomonte the Italian Firefighter of the Year, Gerald Eglentowicz Honorary Italian Man of the Year, Barbara McCann Stamato Honorary Italian Woman of the Year and Felicia Sorrentino Miss Columbus.
