Italian Astronaut Set To Win The DJ Space Race With Set From Outer Space

From Pythagoras' concept of Musica Universalis to Gustav Holst's The Planets, from David Bowie's "Space Oddity" to the Beastie Boys "Intergalactic," outer space has been a perennial fascination of composers and musicians for millennia. On August 13, electronic dance music will boldly go where no-one has gone before when Italian astronaut Luca Parmitano delivers the first-ever DJ set from outer space.

This groundbreaking event is a partnership between the European Space Agency (ESA) and German clubbing innovators BigCityBeatsWORLD CLUB DOME (WCD) series. I spoke to BigCityBeats' founder and CEO, Bernd Breiter, about his path from musician to nightlife innovator, and his motivations to keep breaking boundaries.
