It no longer carries the U.S. Army stamp or the military pomp and circumstance that came with that, but making the All-American Bowl roster still is a really big deal. Naples High School's Chez Mellusi officially became one of 300 high school seniors in the nation to earn a spot in the annual high school all-star game in San Antonio's Alamodome on Jan. 5 in a small ceremony on Tuesday. Mellusi is the sixth Collier County player to make the game that will again be televised live via NBC. Lehigh defensive end Quashon Fuller also will be playing this year.
"This is the most elite honor in high school football," said Naples High coach Bill Kramer, who also has been a head coach, assistant coach and consultant for the game. "These are the best of the best, the top one percent of one percent. And this was a goal of his since he came to our school. It's awesome that he's getting the opportunity."
