Wednesday, February 5, 2020. 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM CST. The Italian Cultural and Community Center, 1101 Milford Street, Houston, TX 77006. Join us as UH Professor Luca Oliva will dissect the life and work of Giordano Bruno, an Italian philosopher, astronomer, mathematician, and occultist whose theories anticipated modern science.
This lecture will present the "first philosopher of science," as Giordano Bruno has been depicted, and focuses on the reception of his natural philosophy in the modern and contemporary periods. Before anyone else, Bruno re-examined the principles of Aristotle's physics and metaphysics in relation to Copernicus and the emergence of the scientific revolution.
