As Fabio Luisi takes over as music director, Dallas Symphony announces 2020-21 season

Ladies and gentlemen, we have — drumroll — a music director! The Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s 2020-21 season, announced Friday, will be Fabio Luisi’s first fully in charge as music director. Because of existing commitments with the Zurich Opera and Danish National Symphony, the Italian maestro could be only music director-designate for the nearly two years since his Dallas appointment was announced.

He’ll still conduct only nine programs here next season, but he’ll be fully involved in planning future programming, selecting guest conductors and soloists and choosing new musicians for the orchestra. Already, programming of contemporary music for 2020-21 is considerably more adventurous than during the Andrew Litton and Jaap van Zweden years.
