The Dante in Italiano group has been reading for two years and in January, 2020, will finally be in the second half of the Inferno. We welcome new members and hope to see returning faces interesting in joining in a steep descent into the realm of fraud. The John D. Calandra Italian American Institute of Queens College/CUNY hosts the group which is dedicated to reading the entire Commedia in Italian with discussions conducted in Italiano.

The group meets two Wednesdays a month. On January 8, the group will be working on Canto XVIII, Line 10. The second session is January 22. The group reads the Canto aloud for the pleasure of the Italian language followed by paraphrasing/translation of the text terzina by terzina in standard Italian and freewheeling discussion of any and all issues of interest to anyone in the group. Meetings are scheduled through December 21, 2022.

This is not a scholarly academic program, but is designed for lovers of Dante, Italy and the Italian language. No particular text is necessary. All the different notes and translations make the discussion more interesting. Everyone, of all ages and backgrounds is welcome. Members of the academic, cultural and publishing communities and native speakers are particularly welcome. All of the discussions in the Dante reading/discussion group are 100% in Italian.
