BYU to host folklore lecture

Legends, music, tall tales and customs are part of folklore that people enjoy. The world of folklore, from Italy to Utah's Cache Valley, will be captured by Steve Siporin on Wednesday at the Lee Library on Brigham Young University campus.

Siporin, professor of folklore at Utah State University will discuss "A Bear and A Bandit: What a Legendary Utah Grizzly and An Italian Brigand Have In Common."

Siporin has a special interest in the culture of the Jews of Italy and has published "Memories of Jewish Life: From Italy to Jerusalem, 1918-1960." The book is a translation of Augusto Segre's memoir. Another book Siporin has published is on American folk artists titled, "American Folk Masters: The National Heritage Fellows."
