AAIS/CSIS Conference, Ohio, April 2017 - Placing Sicily

Nov 02, 2016 635

Organizer: Lina Insana (University of Pittsburgh). How and by what means does Sicily "belong" to its various geographical, geopolitical, cultural, and affective contexts — southern, Italian, European, Mediterranean, diasporic, and so on? How do the literary, cinematic, theatrical, and other cultural products that have emerged from and about Sicily both represent and create the island's position vis à vis these other configurations of identity? Scholarly interventions that approach this question from the interdisciplinary perspectives of space and place, spatial rhetoric, critical geography, Mediterranean studies, island studies, identity studies, and related fields are especially welcome.

Interested colleagues should submit proposals of no more than 250 words, along with a brief bio, to Lina Insana ([email protected]) by 1 December, 2016. Sincerely, Francesca Facchi, on behalf of the AAISCSIS Organizing Team. Our joint conference, AAIS and CSIS, will take place in Columbus, Ohio, from April 20th to April 22nd, 2017. Please follow us here: Twitter: @AAIS_CSIS_2017 (with hashtag #AAISCSIS); Facebook page: AAIS and CSIS Columbus 2017
