Webuild Spa announced Tuesday that it has been awarded a USD152.0 million, EUR137.0 million contract, through its subsidiary USA Lane, to upgrade Interstate 77 in South Carolina, USA. The project, commissioned by the South Carolina Department of Transportation, supports the development of the new plant of Scout Motors, a subsidiary of Volkswagen, intended to employ up to 4,000 people.
The contract includes the design and construction of interchanges, four bridges, access ramps, and a new road connecting I-77 and U.S. Route 21. In addition, a 4.8-mile stretch of I-77 is planned to be widened to three lanes. The goal is to improve local mobility and support regional economic growth.
