Joe DiMartino is not in the business of waiting. The Charleston resident started inviting Staten Islanders to tour his impressive Christmas village of a home on Thanksgiving evening. DiMartino created the display in memory of his wife, Debra Ann, who fell victim to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack at the World Trade Center. Each year, he raises thousands of dollars for the Nalitt Institute’s Outpatient Children’s Cancer Unit at Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze.
“The holidays can be hard sometimes but seeing people come here with smiles on their faces makes everything worth it,” DiMartino told SILive.com Friday evening. “All the work, all the months of prep mean everything when I see people walking through and having a good time.”
