Join us on Thursday October 17 at 6pm (Columbus Citizens Foundation | 8 East 69th Street | New York, NY) for a lecture by special guest speakers from Italy that focuses on both the Giostra della Quintana and the fascinating traditions of the region of Umbria. RSVP Here
The Giostra della Quintana (Joust of Quintana) originates from the fifth road of the Roman military campus stationed in Foligno, where soldiers were trained in lance fighting. A test of skill began amongst the soldiers to catch a ring hanging from the arm of a dummy seated on horseback with their lances.
This evolved into a tradition that was revived in a modern festival in 1946, with several intricacies added to the competition that will be elaborated upon in this exciting lecture.
The region of Umbria is a storied one, with many mysterious traditions and secrets that take an experienced person to describe. You can access this knowledge by RSVPing today. We'll see you there.
