Eleanor Conforti, an Advance Woman of Achievement who advocated for the disadvantaged, dies at 90

Eleanor T. Conforti, a steadfast local leader whose altruistic nature, gracious persona and timeless wisdom were a testament to the exemplary life she led, died Tuesday in her Great Kills home after a short illness. She was 90. A courageous and passionate advocate for Staten Island’s charitable causes, she championed health and education issues, especially those related to the welfare of children.

A public school teacher, she assumed the role of president of the Staten Island Federation of PTAs. For more than six decades she was at the forefront of organizations and foundations, many dedicated to women’s rights.
