Mario Toglia, the son of Calitri-born immigrants, grew up in Brooklyn, NY and attended local Catholic schools, including Fordham University School of Education. He taught Romance languages in the New York City public school system for 33 years, and researched his family history as an avocation.

Done initially at a leisurely pace, it then accelerated once he retired and in the "Age of Computer Technology." The collection of data expanded outward after he connected with fellow Calitrani descendants. His latest book, Celebrating the Heritage pays honor and preserves the immigrant story and legacy. Of particular interest to the local community is material as it relates to settlers who made Westchester County their home. Research and interviews generated poignant narratives filled with success and sadness.
