The feasts of Maria SS. Lauretana and Maria SS. Incoronata are testaments to the ability of faith to overcome adversity. Both have been running continuously in the Chicago area for more than 120 years, and both rolled with the pandemic punches last year, hosting modified versions of their traditional celebrations. Now, they’re ready to shake free of the shackles of previous restrictions.
The 121st annual Feast of Maria SS. Lauretana will run from Sept. 3-5 on the south side of the Golf Mill Shopping Center in Niles. Festivities will culminate on Sept. 5 with a procession at 9 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m., followed by processions with the Sicilian Band of Chicago leading up to the traditional Flight of the Angels at 5 and 8 p.m. A street festival with food, live entertainment and a carnival will run from Sept. 3-5.
