Herrin rolls out the red carpet — a red, white and green carpet — to celebrate the city's Italian heritage and plenty of red, white and blue to celebrate the beauty of America's Memorial Day weekend with the 23rd annual HerrinFesta Italiana. Kids, Bikes and Pet Parade moves to a new home at 4 p.m. today at McDonald's parking lot. Marlene Simpson is chairwoman. The piazza rocks with top name entertainers now through Memorial Day evening, when Florida Georgia Line takes the stage for a 7:30 p.m. wrap-up concert. The Grand Parade is set for 11 a.m. Saturday through downtown Herrin. There are bocce ball tournaments, golf games and a whole array of fun activities Saturday afternoon with the bigga nose, spaghetti sauce and spaghetti eating contests and the traditional grape stomp.
