Veterans Appreciation Ceremony To Be Held Saturday at Italian Fest. Before the first bocce ball is rolled or sausage sandwich is consumed Saturday at the Undo’s Upper Ohio Valley Italian Heritage Festival, a veterans appreciation ceremony will be held at noon on the main stage at Heritage Port.
A committee led by John Looney, director of the Wheeling Vets Center, John Nanny, past commandant Department of West Virginia Marine Corps League, and Sam Nazzaro Sr., has put together a program to honor several local veterans. Looney will have the honor of introducing speaker Hershel “Woody”Williams, the West Virginia Medal of Honor recipient, who served at Iwo Jima during World War II. Nanny will announce recipients of the Four Chaplains award.
