After skipping last year, "A Merry Mulberry Street Musical" is back at Curtain Call in Stamford, where ticket sales have been very brisk. "We're virtually sold out," Executive Director Lou Ursone reported last week of the sequel to "Mulberry Street," a Stamford favorite for 75 years. "It's great to get an extra financial boost at the end of the year."
The "Mulberry Street" saga has been a part of Ursone's life for many years, with him playing various members of the family, from young to mature, as he aged out of one role and into another. For Stamford residents, the original play has been a presence in the community going back to a 1939 production that featured Ursone's father and great uncle, as well as former Stamford Mayor Louis Claps.
