Ristorante Scala Del Nonna, By Way Of NYC’s Scalini Fedeli, Coming To Montclair NJ

scalaby Owen Satran

Montclair, your prayers have been answered! Just what downtown Montclair needed — another Italian restaurant!

Well, maybe not, but before you roll your eyes, check the dish on this new spot. The restaurant is headed by renowned chef Michael Cetrulo, whose impressive pedigree suggests that Ristorante Scala Del Nonna might just become the talk of the town. Cetrulo began working in restaurants when he was only 13, and by the time he was 23, in 1990, he opened his own- Madison’s Il Mondo Vecchio. He then trained for a year in Italy in an attempt to modernize his culinary repertoire, and went on start four more restaurants, including the popular Scalini Fedeli in 1995.

What Doesn't the Domenico Vacca Flagship Have?

What Doesn't the Domenico Vacca Flagship Have?

Stagnation in retail spells death, according to Domenico Vacca. "I think that every ten to 15 years —€" actually, now, it has to be faster than that," the Italian designer told us over a lengthy chat earlier this year. This isn't a euphemism: In the gleaming dining rooms of La Sirena, the latest restaurant from celebrity chef Mario Batali and his partner Joe Bastianich, there's a roving antipasti station delivering piles of olives, cheese, and salami. It's one of...

A fresh, spirited Verdi 'Falstaff' from Muti, CSO and cast

Lately there have been grumblings among some, though not all, of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association board members, wondering why the orchestra should be taking on expensive projects like lavishly cast concert operas in a city that already has a world-class opera company.   Performances as glorious as the all-star concert version of Verdi's "Falstaff" with which Riccardo Muti concluded his spring...
