“If You Saw What I Saw in Corleone”: A Conversation with Artist Maria D. Rapicavoli (March 26, 2019)

The phenomenon of film and TV series about crime as sources of inspiration for tourism in Italy (and around the world) has only grown in recent years. One the seminal places for it is Corleone, a town in large part created in the transnational collective imagination by the classic American film trilogy The Godfather, which ironically was not shot in Corleone!

Yet, this small Sicilian town of worldwide renown for mafia activities has also been one of the many locations for anti-mafia initiatives in the region. The complexity of this place, existing between reality and fiction, will be explored in a conversation with artist Maria D. Rapicavoli, who chose Corleone for a residency to develop her multimedia project “If You Saw What I Saw” (2008-11).
