Viggo Mortensen has revealed people believe he actually has Italian ancestry after seeing him play Tony “Lip” Vallelonga in the film “Green Book.” In his first interview since Green Book took home the Oscar for Best Picture, the Hollywood Reporter asked Mortensen what has been the most rewarding part about his performance.
“I have had quite a few Italian-Americans ask me, “Are you sure you’re not Italian?” — which is the highest compliment I could receive for my work,” Mortensen replied. Mortensen said he was reluctant to take the role because he wasn’t sure he could pull off an Italian-American character. “For one thing, I’m not Italian-American. And there’s a lot of good Italian-American actors,” he said.
