If you’re looking for a way to learn more about Italy while in DC, you have to go to Via Umbria. Located in Georgetown – a neighborhood that reminds lots of people of Europe – it’s a great place to walk to as you do your shopping. They sell true Italian ingredients and wine, have a cafe in the back, dining event spaces upstairs, and cooking classes throughout the year.
I went a couple of times, once to try a few dishes in the cafe for a tasting they were doing and again for a pasta-making class. The team is very friendly and knowledgeable of everything Italian, like what kind of pastas to make in the summer, which olive oil to choose for your next party, or how to make pasta with only two ingredients.
