Dr. Jude Pfister, Chief of Cultural Resources at Washington’s Headquarters Museum – part of Morristown National Historical Park in Morristown, New Jersey – discovered within the Lloyd W. Smith manuscript collection the original 1693 manuscript of Alessandro Scarlatti’s oratorio La Giuditta.
Dr. Robert W. Butts, conductor of The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey, created a modern edition and performed the work in its entirety in New York in 2008. In 2016 The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey celebrated its 20th Anniversary. At the same time, The National Park Service celebrated its 100th Anniversary. Together, they celebrated with a special performance of the oratorio with the manuscript on display for those in the audience.
