Niki and Shaokao Cheng can sense good design a mile (or a couple thousand) away. The owners of BoConcept New York, the couple brought stylish, modern Danish design to the Big Apple in 2003, long before hygge became a trendy buzzword. This March, they introduced Italian purveyor Calligaris to SoHo, and they aren't stopping there. Today, the couple announced the opening of Calligaris's second location, on the Upper East Side, set for August 1.
"We chose Calligaris for its award-winning Italian modern design and great price points, and it wonderfully complements the offerings at our other stores," said Niki Cheng in an announcement. As for the choice of location, the Chengs are smartly following the boom of new luxury buildings in midtown and northern Manhattan. Their choice of building also responds to more flexible attitudes about blending furniture styles and eras.
