Assaggi Osteria announced Thursday it has opened a pizzeria serving Neapolitan pizza and other Italian classics. Assaggi Osteria Pizzeria is now open at 6641 Old Dominion Drive in McLean. The restaurant's Neapolitan pizza is certified by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana. Some highlights are the traditional Margherita D.O.P with fresh tomato, fresh mozzarella and basil or the Napoletana with fresh tomato, mozzarella, olives, anchovies, chiles and capers.
Other menu offerings include salads, salumi and small dishes. The wine list will have many wines from Central and Southern Italy. Chef and owner Domenico Cornacchia opened Assaggi Osteria in 2009, aiming to bring generations of Italian cooking. Previously the executive chef and partner at Georgetown's Café Milano for over 15 years, Cornacchia previously worked for Sette Bello in Clarendon and Sette Osteria in Dupont Circle. A native of central Italy, Cornacchia honed his skills in cooking beginning at age 12.
