Andrea Doria: Are the Passengers Saved? on Vimeo on Demand

Dec 07, 2017 2203

A cinematic collaboration between and Italian-American producer and an Italian director resulted in an award-winning doculfilm about the calamitous and controversial collision at sea between the liners Andrea Doria and MS Stockholm in 1956. Featured are several survivors, including the legendary composer, Mike Stoller, as well as naval experts. Re-enactments filmed in two countries bring the story to life.

Writer-producer-shipwreck survivor, Pierette Domenica Simpson and Roman director, Luca Guardabascio’s film screened at festivals in the U.S., Canada, and Italy. Deputy Fucsia Nissoli invited the film to screen at the Italian Parliament in Rome. Pierette explains, “It is the love for my native country that lead me to create a work which seeks to correct history—one that used Italians as scapegoats instead of honoring them for the ‘greatest sea rescue ever!"

"Andrea Doria: Are the Passengers Saved?”, the first shipwreck documentary ever written and produced by one of the ship’s survivors, is now for sale on Vimeo on Demand. “…a beautifully told story of a young girl’s journey from a small Italian village to join her mother in America. At the same time it is both a history and a re-evaluation of one of the most tragic and notorious accidents at sea, and the greatest maritime rescue.---Mike Stoller, composer, songwriter, survivor
