When most think of important architects with Arizona ties, Frank Lloyd Wright comes to mind first. And while Wright definitely left his mark on the state, he’s not the only one. Paolo Soleri -- an Italian citizen who who spent his later years in Arizona -- built two experimental communities in the Grand Canyon state: Cosanti in Paradise Valley and Arcosanti in the Verde Valley.
His work will be the focus of Paolo Soleri: The City Is Nature beginning Oct. 14 at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, 7374 E. Second St. The retrospective, running through Jan. 28, will focus on drawings, sculptures and models that Soleri produced from 1947 until the mid-1970s.
