Ciao Houston Heritage Tour sheds light on 1900s Italian community

In the shadow of the city skyline, among a large cluster of Victorian-era houses, Italian Houstonians reminisced on their history and how their families came to become established within Sixth Ward and Greater Houston. Archaeology Now held the Ciao Houston Heritage Tour on Saturday afternoon, teaching attendees about Houston’s 1900s Italian community and the influence it still holds.

“These heritage tours are about building connections for you with your city and with each other,” said Becky Lao, executive director for Archaeology Now. “It’s about documenting and preserving Houston’s history. Houston is one of the most diverse cities in the U.S. and has an incredibly rich history and sometimes it’s difficult to access.”
