The Italian Heritage and Culture Committee of New York, Inc, (IHCC-NY) has announced the publication of its commemorative poster... A Salute to Italian Women in America: Breaking Barriers… from Ellis Island to the Present. This is a tribute to all women of Italian heritage, from the first Italian female immigrants, who, despite all obstacles, arrived and thrived in American, all the while maintaining their family, faith, tradition and values.

The theme, as well, commemorates the early immigrant religious sisters, who worked with the poor, sick and marginalized. It, indeed, is a recognition of those Italian and Italian American women over three centuries, who became “first” in every field imaginable, the first American saint; first female pilot of a major airline; winner of an Olympic gold medal; first woman publisher of a major magazine; an outstanding scholar; accomplished musician or artist; courageous community activist or first CEO of a major corporation.

The 2018 theme poster will be available on line at the IHCC-NY website www.italyculturemonth.org. Hayley Rothman DiRico designed the poster under the auspices of Arland Printing. In addition, posted on the organiza-tion’s website is a listing of several notable Italian women in American and their remarkable accomplishments, compiled by Board members. One can also find there the 2018 Italian Culture Month Calendar of Events.

Comm. Joseph Sciame, President/Chair of the IHCC-NY, Inc., praised the efforts of all members of the Board for their creative thinking in contributing to the development of the poster, theme, and programs. He said: “For 42 years the IHCC-NY, Inc. has brought forth new themes in keeping alive her-itage and culture, and this year 2018 is one of the best in saluting and honor-ing our Italian and Italian-American women.”
