A local business owner and a mechanical engineer accepted awards as Italians of the Year Friday night at the Italian Heritage and Cultural Committee of Norwich’s Columbus Day Banquet at Norwich’s Holiday Inn. Vincent Malerba of Norwich and John Marino of Preston were selected by an eight-member committee as the 2018 Italians of the Year. Malerba is the owner of Malerba’s Farm in Norwich, and Marino is a retired engineer. Both are graduates of Norwich Free Academy.
“We like to honor those who respect and carry on the cultural heritage and honor our traditions,” said Frank Jacaruso, president of the Italian Heritage and Cultural Committee of Norwich. “It’s not just about being Italian, it’s about contributing to the community.”
