Judy Cicero, Provincetown activist, arts supporter & entrepreneur, dies at 79

She may have come from humble roots, but Judy Cicero, born Judith Schwartz in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Aug. 10, 1938, was Provincetown’s version of a Renaissance woman, our Auntie Mame. She was active in local politics and town government, and she supported more than a few arts institutions and charities on the Outer Cape. She owned businesses in town and built a house in Eastham.

“She was a brilliant woman,” her friend Harriet Bee said. “She was a woman with wit and style, and she was firm in her beliefs,” said another, Rachel White. “The breadth of her experiences and knowledge was breathtaking,” wrote yet another, Sheila McGuinness, on social media. “She was very giving, very smart, her insights were very good,” Cherie Mittenthal, executive director of Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill, said.
